# ๐ŸŒŒ 1-Minute Learning

Why Is the Sky Blue?

Have you ever looked up at the sky and wondered, **โ€œWhy is it blue?โ€** ๐Ÿค”

The answer is hidden in **sunlight and our atmosphere**.

We usually think sunlight is white, but sunlight is actually made up of **seven colours** โ€” like the colours we see in a rainbow. ๐ŸŒˆ

When sunlight enters Earth's atmosphere, it meets tiny particles and gases in the air. These particles **scatter the different colours of light** in different amounts.

The **blue light gets scattered much more strongly** than colours such as red and orange. Because blue light spreads across the sky in all directions, our eyes receive a lot of blue light โ€” and that is why the sky appears blue! ๐Ÿ’™

๐ŸŒ… Then why does the sky turn orange or red at sunset?

At sunset, sunlight travels through **much more atmosphere** before reaching our eyes. Most of the blue light gets scattered away, allowing more **red, orange and yellow light** to reach us.

๐Ÿง  Remember This:

**Sunlight + Earth's Atmosphere + Scattering = Blue Sky**

โœจ **One minute. One new idea. Keep learning!**
